Unique Sponsorship and Entertaining Opportunities
The Heritage and History weekend, Sunday and Monday 28th/29th August 2005 is billed as the most exciting historical entertainment weekend planned in the south of England during 2005. It promises to be an outstanding weekend with various military history displays, rural activities, craft shows, stalls and entertainments of all kinds. With in excess of 10,000 visitors anticipated, we are delighted to offer you the chance of being involved. If you would like the best seats in the house or be involved in sponsoring the event then please read on.
The climax of the event will be a re-enactment of the Battle of Cheriton by the Sealed Knot society. With over 2,500 participants, 20 cannons and the largest cavalry charge seen in the country for over three hundred years, the battle will be the largest re-enactment in Europe this year.
The weekend kicks off each day at 11.00am, with non-stop entertainment throughout the day, climaxing with the battle re-enactment at 3pm. Thousands of Civil War soldiers, dozens of cannons and over one hundred cavalry will create a spectacle not seen since the seventeenth century. A full scale model of the battle, the only one of it’s kind, will help you visualise and understand what happened and why.
Supported by other soldiers from over 1,000 years of our history, you will be taken on a journey through time. Authentic camps will enable you to see what life was like hundreds of years ago. And our modern-day heroes will be on site to demonstrate how things have changed over the millennium.
In the arenas the soldiers will display skill at arms and our visitors will have the chance to try out the weapons and tactics of those bygone days.
It isn’t all military history. There will be craft and commerce tents offering all kinds of interesting products and outside stalls. There will be have-a-go archery and treasure hunting, hawking demonstrations, musical entertainment along with a mini fun fair to keep you entertained. For refreshments, the best tea tent ever, hog roasts and the Itchen Valley Brewery beer festival.
Directions
The event will be taking place on Scrubbs Farm, Bishop’s Sutton. This is about 1 mile from Alresford, itself 5 l mile north-east of Winchester. The route will be AA signposted from the A31. Travelling distances (under good traffic conditions) are Basingstoke 20 minutes, Winchester 10 minutes, Southampton 25 minutes, Bournemouth 40 minutes.
Duration
The show is open from 11:00am until 5.30pm both days. There will be entertainment and activities throughout the day.

About Us
The Battle of Cheriton Project Limited, a company limited by guarantee, has been established to raise the profile of an important battlefield – the site of the Battle of Cheriton – and to enlighten the public about the momentous events that unfolded across the countryside during the English Civil War, some 360 years ago, by means of an interactive educational programme, improved public information and weekend events.
Objectives
The primary aim of the Battle of Cheriton Project is the education of the public about the Battle of Cheriton and other activities and entertainments.
The key objectives of the project are:
To create a fully-interactive educational programme for local schools, involving web site, school activity packs, living history demonstrations, battle re-enactments and site visits
To encourage local business activity through increased visitors and tourism to the area
To deliver faithful re-enactments of one of the less well known battles of the Civil War as a vehicle for raising the profile of the events of the English Civil War; and to deliver family-orientated entertainment days.
To provide information boards at strategic locations and signposted walks around the battlefield area for the benefit of visitors and locals alike.
What does this mean for you?
The opportunities are many and varied, for you to support these initiatives and be involved and share in the spectacle of the big events. Whether you wish to entertain clients or friends, sponsor a regiment for the day or use this unique event to promote your business, we have a package just for you.
